SHEA COOPERATORS INSURANCE

Our intent with the overall space was to fuse midcentury modern architecture with a Japandi palette of finishes.

To offer a reprieve from the rather straight lines, known well in MCM design, the ends of the planter walls are curved; so too are the walls flanking the lunchroom millwork, and for a bit more fun, the island within this communal lounge. To connect back to the planter walls in the reception, we introduced a pillar planter on the island.

While the restrained palette is comprised of charred and warm tone woods (HPL for durability), Corian counters (with a seamless sink for cleanability), and concrete board form (tiles for cost, weight, and local fabrication), it lends itself to introducing colour in upholstery fabrics and pattern in the carpet selection. Working with COI Scandinavian pieces from Hay and Muuto are the perfect layering pieces of form meets function.
